Rüdiger and Eva met at University already during freshers week. Eva came from Finland to do a BA course in Silversmithing, goldsmithing and jewellery in Rochester, England. Rüdiger “Rudy”, an Austrian, was a direct entry into the second year. The couple moved to London after they had both graduated and worked for renowned names within the jewellery field. But as Rudy got homesick, he wanted to return to his home town Graz in Austria, Eva tagged along. Rudy set up his CAD-service, designing and drawing jewellery for production, Eva studied fine arts before starting her freelance carreer as a jewellery designer, producing collections for well established international brands. They married after beeing together for eight years. A daughter was born and the couple moved to Finland and founded L&S together. Shortly thereafter they had their second child, a boy. Now they sit in the quiet village of Purmo, in the swedish-speaking region of Ostrobothnia in western Finland, designing and making jewellery not only for the locals but for all of you guys!

“The only important thing about design is how it relates to people”

Design is the main thing! Whithout a good design there is no need to make a piece. Every piece is sketched up by hand or drawn on the computer with the intended buyer or wearer in mind. We think a lot about the purpose the jewellery will be given. If it is a gift, who is it for and what should it symbolise? We always stay true to our own style and aesthetic, but try to understand the wearer and his or her preferences.

Contemporary jewellery, or art jewellery, has been the starting point on our jewellery journey for both of us. We both see precious metal as the material in which to express our creativity. It is the material that translates the idea into reality. Working with metal comes naturally, basic crafting skills are obviously also of essence, but the creativity and the concept remains the priority.

Quality is another important aspect. We do not cut down on costs by compromising quality. We guarantee well made pieces that will last for generations.

In short about the ethical and environmental aspect. Our company excist only of us two and most of our metals used are recycled. Larger stones are bought with certificates and all the production takes place locally. We use a mild pickling solution, no harmful acid, and eat and drink our fairtraid organic coffee in the workshop without any worries!
